When You Buy Aveda Gift Sets You're Helping The Planet

IMPROVING LIVES IS A GIFT

Aveda, always looking to “give back” has partnered with communities in Nepal for its 2011 Holiday Collection.

The 2011 Holiday collection that we have for you to purchase at Matthew Michael's, is 8 limited edition gift sets that take you on a sensory journey of harmony and tranquility, and help support the indigenous communities and craftsmanship of northwestern Nepal.

Featuring many of Aveda’s all-time favorites, the Holiday 2011 collection celebrates the beauty of wellbeing while honoring the ancient craft of Nepali papermaking. Every gift set is embellished with lokta paper handcrafted by men and women in the Himalaya.  This all supports the local industry, which keeps families together and reverses local deforestation in the region. Subsequently this also helps to protect the dwindling population of snow leopards and other endangered animals in the region by preserving 34,000 acres of Himalayan forest from deforestation.

“When you give an Aveda holiday gift wrapped with Nepali lokta paper, you become part of a centuries-old indigenous craft. We believe it is important to help break the cycle of poverty for the next generation.”

HELPING WOMEN - FIGHTING POVERTY

A whopping 80 percent of those who make the lokta bark paper we buy for our gift boxes are women. It helps the whole village when women earn income, for buying food and medicine, and sending children to school. We’re helping give women the

power to improve lives.

PROTECTING FORESTS

This lokta bark used for the gift box paper, that helps preserve the forest doesn’t just help people of the Himalayas.  Scientists say that up to 25 percent of greenhouse gases are caused by deforestation. Protecting 34,000 acres of forest fights climate change. This is a gift for all of us.
