Ultimate List Of 5 Things Not To Do To Your Hair

Washing Your Hair Every Day

It’s not a good idea. Your head produces natural oils that you don’t want to wash out every day, these oils help to coat and protect your hair keeping it strong & healthy. If your hair is colored washing every day will strip the color to some degree.  If your hair is slightly oily and you feel you must wash it every day, this could actually make it worse. Because when you wash every day, you're removing the sebum, (oily secretion), every day, which the oil glands then compensate for by producing even more oil.

Playing Hairdresser at Home

Using bleaches, straighteners and other chemicals in and on your hair is a recipe for disaster, with the likely result being destroyed and damaged hair, while not achieving the results you’re looking for.  There’s a reason why professionals train for years and are always taking continuing education. Save your hair and leave this to a pro.

Using Styling Tool That are Too Hot

Sounds obvious, you’ve heard it before, but too many people too often, use tools and blowers that are too hot.  Care needs to be taken that your equipment isn’t toasting your hair, especially the ends.  There are products to help you protect hair, such as AVEDA Style Prep Smoother, which uses Hydrolyzed wheat protein to prevent against surface damage from heat styling.

The Sun

The sun can wreak havoc on hair.  We remember our face & skin, but often forget to protect the part of body that’s closest to the sun.  Consequently, hair gets dryer, rougher and more brittle, sometime to the point of appearing straw-like, while color pigments are being bleached out.  Aside from staying out of the sun, there are of course hats, and there are outstanding hair products that offer UVA/UVB protection that protect and condition.  AVEDA Sun Care Hair Veil, Sun Care Hair & Body Cleanser, and After Sun Hair Masque, offer a 3 pronged approach to keep your hair healthy.

Wet Hair

Hair is actually very strong.  EXCEPT when it’s wet.  When wet or damp it’s at its weakest state.  When wet water breaks down the natural Hydrogen in hair.  If Towel drying, blot don’t rub.  Use conditioners. Never us a brush on wet hair.  Use a high quality comb. Avoid pulling on hair, and it’s a good idea to avoid sleeping with wet hair.
